Experimenting

The other day I tried something new. I've been frustrated lately with my dps output since the last nerf. So I thought I'd try switching out some gems. Well, instead of the straight strength ones, I substituted straight expertise. It was probably 3 gems total, and it didn't really change my dps. So I have less attack power, by about 120. But my expertise is up to 12 out of 26. So I guess the expertise helps, because the bosses can't dodge as much, and if I can get some better gear, maybe my dps output will be better.

I know, I know. I've been told time and time again to not gem for expertise because my gear should give it to me. Well, so far it hasn't so I figured I might as well experiment with it. I do want to see how things work with my expertise capped. So I need to get more gear with expertise or swap out more gems.

Feel free to comment with advice. My armory is here.

Here I go with suggestions :)

You are way over the top with the hit. Hit cap is 267 without the drenai racial, and since you are a drenai, you will always have the base +1% hit. So you are WAY over. Drop all the +hit gems, and get yourself down to about 230-245 hit.

Secondly, if you are focusing on PvE - that meta HAS to go. You want STR not AP. You want the Relentless Earthseige Diamond. It requires 1 red (no problem there) one blue, and one yellow. For your blue, drop in a sovereign twilight opal (or epic equivalent), and your yellow, since you are over the top with your hit, an Inscribed Monarch Topaz (again, or epic equivalent). I know you are experimenting with expertise. If you want to keep at it, go for it. But I really would recommend sticking to strength.

The belt has got to go. It simply has too much hit on it for it to be useful for you. If you have the money, craft (or have someone craft for you) the Ulduar belt, Belt of Titans. Be prepared, its pricey.

Other than that, you are doing fantastic. Keep running H ToC (5 man) for the shoulders, the wrists, and the legs. (Don't feel bad, I can't get those dammed shoulders to drop for me either, GRRR RNG!).

For badge loot, you should be looking at the legs (depends on how much you run H ToC), or the helm - then fill out the rest.

Trinkets - I know you prolly have the alchy stone for your profession, but I wouldn't hang on to it too much longer. Farm ToC reg for that Melee DPS trinket. Its basically another mirror of truth, and better by double than that stone. Or, pray to the RNG mistress that your next naxx run will drop a loatheb's shadow. Best option yet, if you have the money, get the darkmoon card: Greatness. Best trinket in game, by orders of magnitude. It will set you back by almost 4K gold though.

Last item - Glyphs. I would drop seal of righteousness and pop Glyph of exorcism in there. You shouldn't be using righteousness - its virtually the same DPS as your talented SoCommand (in reality it edges out just slightly, but not enough to warrant a glyph). If you really want to run with righteousness, drop the SoCommand talent point, and use it somewhere else. Drop the glyph of crusader strike. Pick up Glyph of consecrate. It reduces the amount of conflicts in your rotation, and saves you a ton more mana than crusader strike. Its a double whammy, and a must have for any ret, hands down.

Anyway, hope you don't feel like i'm picking you apart :) I truly have the best intentions here.
Believe me, I have seen Flavor of the Month Ret's (we have fifty-billion of them on my server, muradin), and you are not a FotM. Besides - youll blow your guild away when you go into naxx the next time, and climb up on dps meeters :)
